We Love: WGSN Womenswear Buying Trends

The latest S/S 15 buying trends and new key items highlight a new focus on volume basics to support layered styling. The influence of fabric on silhouette and colour on pattern is reduced to the must-have seasonal items.

The lightweight duster is a key item in the spring/summer collections. This androgynous design is a great alternative for spring-weight outerwear. The maxi length elongates this light coat, adding a delicate and flowing touch to this previously masculine shape. Light colours, wide lapels, oversized pockets and rolled sleeves continue to add to the soft and delicate silhouette.

This soft and stylish look depicts the relaxed deconstructed silhouette trend for the season. With the oversized cut, rolled sleeves, draped revers, storm flaps and exposed zips, this look typifies the relaxed mood of the season. Key colours include nude and light tones, chalky pastels and dusty shades of metallic.

Low, draped necklines offer a new look to the ever popular blouse. The wrapped construction and delicate gatherings omit a soft and feminine touch to a previously masculine cut. In silk and sheer materials, this look supports the season’s mood for soft volume.

Since denim and boyfriend jeans have maintained their position in the retail buying market, it is with no surprise that the spring/summer trend has revived this trend with a crisp and cool colour shift in colour – white denim is back! The loose, relaxed, boyfriend style fit has cemented its place in the market, with WGSN recording a season-on-season increase of 72% in the UK and doubled figures in the US. The crisp white denim, turned up hems, casual Capri length and sporadic rips and frays all add to the relaxed and edgy look.
