Reptiles with a reputation

The skin from crocodiles has long been recognised internationally as a highly durable leather of great individual beauty as a finished product. Each skin has its own individual pattern enabling every piece to be totally unique.

Vervain specialises in producing a range of handbags, wallets, belts, accessories and gift ideas in a variety of fashion colours and styles.

Established in 1981, the Darwin Crocodile farm has an international reputation for its production of quality skins. The Darwin Crocodile Farm follows industry best practice and commercially produces crocodile skins in a sustainable manner, whilst protecting and promoting Northern Australia’s wild crocodile population.

Crocodiles are bred and raised on the farm under the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Commission’s Crocodile Management Program, to produce superior quality crocodile skins. Crocosaurus Cove’s Leather Range of genuine Australian Saltwater Crocodile products uses some of the highest grade of crocodile skins available on the world market.

Saltwater crocodile skin is known in the leather industry as ‘Singapore small scale’ and has become the elite skin of the crocodilians. The Porosus skin is renowned for its small scale size, also the belly of this species is devoid of Osteoderms or “buttons” which are floating bone inside the skin.

Crocodylus Porosus, Australian Saltwater Crocodile, is the largest and most aggressive of all crocodilian species worldwide. It is also the species that produces the highest quality and most expensive leather in the world due to the scale pattern, the strength and the texture. Due to the aggressive nature of the species, the Porosus is the hardest of all crocodilian specie to farm.

It is the preferred leather for the USD $50,000 – USD$100,000 Hermès assorted leather goods. The European Fashion Houses are currently Vervain’s biggest purchaser of crocodile skins, so the crocodile leather products featured in current magazines manufactured by these houses are generally sourced from the Darwin Crocodile farm.

Showcasing their full range of products at Fashion Exposed, including mock ups of a few new handbag designs that are yet to be manufactured, Vervain allows for changes to ensure individuality if required to prospective buyers.
