Why shouldn’t fashion and comfort be mutually exclusive? Imagine a shoe that not only looks great with every outfit but feels great with every step. A ballet flat given the thumbs up by your doctor and your best friend; a slide that matches your wedding gown and massages your feet as you dance down the aisle; a flip-flop so stylish it’s featured in fashion magazines; and a shoe that’s eco-friendly, waterproof and made in the USA.
One footwear brand has taken a stance and founded itself on the principle that women shouldn’t have to suffer for style. Introducing OKA b. who’ve successfully married comfort with fashion without compromising style.
The brand officially launched in 2005 after seeing a need in the marketplace for an ‘upscale spa shoe’. They kicked off with two basic styles – a slide and a thong, designed to feel like a spa shoe by integrating the principles of reflexology and ergonomics. Today the line has expanded to include dozens of styles and colors adorned with natural seashell, gemstones and ribbon, without compromising on comfort.
Massage beads pamper the foot and promote good posture. OKA b.s are also crafted using a single piece of proprietary Microplast® material and are antimicrobial, waterproof and washable.
Each season our designers introduce colorful new designs to the collection adorned with everything from gemstones to flowers. From summer brights to subdued autumn tones, our fabulous bridal collection to the casual weekend flip-flop, and our newest addition, the most comfortable ballet flat you’ll ever wear, there’s an OKA b. for every look and for every occasion.
And while they love colour and fashion trends like the rest of us, they don’t live by them and aren’t married to what the pages of the fashion magazines are looking for. They design for their customer – a woman who likes to have fun with fashion, but loves to be comfortable. A woman who has multiple pairs of OKA b.’s in her closet so she can pair them up with many outfits.
So how does the design process work? Well firstly the OKA b. designers come up with themes and stories that create the smaller collections which then form the whole line. Each season takes months of prep work and execution to assure that the best pieces make it to the retailers at the best possible price points.
And the story behind the name? Well their parent company is OKABASHI Brands Inc. So when looking for a name, they wanted something that could resemble the parent company but was shorter and more feminine- thus OKA b. was born.
And the future is bright for the OKA b. label as it continues to grow in both retail and consumer branding. They are looking towards simpler and more impactful collections based around color and substance.
They plan on perfecting the comfort factor and never leaving behind its spa roots – giving women a break from their less comfortable shoes to become the perfect on-the-go accessory.
