Wendy & Holly Shoes – A fairy tale in the making

Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life. This definitely rings true for self-confessed shoe-aholic, Wendy MacManus. From an early age, Wendy had a love of shoes. After a mid-life career change, Wendy chose to follow her heart and find her fairy tale ending thanks to her shoe fetish.

Let’s start at the very beginning…
At the age of 54 and having worked in accounts for a number of years, Wendy made the brave decision that it was time for a change.
“I started to feel very stifled by my job. Accounts, was all I had known. I realised I was ‘dying’ in my role. I had no enthusiasm to go to work. So I made a radical decision, and quit.”

Georgie_angle_viewNot long after this snap decision, Wendy ventured to Bali. Here she found inspiration for her new career – designing and making jelly shoes. Wasting no time, Wendy joined forces with her long-time friend, Holly. Almost immediately, Wendy and Holly flew over to China to visit various shoe factories and showrooms.
“We shopped and shopped; our feet did not touch the ground. Shoes have always been my passion and now it was my job to shop for shoes!”

After much deliberation, the moulds were chosen and the first collection based on four styles of shoe – court, ballet, wedge and sling back was in production. Wendy & Holly wanted to personalise each style so they added their Australian designed shoe jewellery. Satisfied they had created a fun, fashionable and affordable shoe, Wendy & Holly Shoes & Accessories was launched in February 2011.

The story so far…
In no time at all Wendy and Holly Shoes were in high demand and being stocked in numerous retail outlets across Australia and New Zealand. As things got busier, Holly found it increasingly more difficult to commit to the demands of the company and chose to let Wendy fly solo.

Wendy’s feet have hardly touched the ground since!
