Most of you who regularly read this online newsletter will admit to a slight obsession with footwear. Whether you’re a designer, wholesaler, retailer or just general lover, we are all joined by the same sole affection for shoes.
Sneaker freakers take footwear fetish to another level. In some cases, as one of our Shoe Online colleagues pointed out, they can own up to 19 pairs of the same shoe just because they ‘liked’ it. This is one habit we had to investigate after we heard of how the release of the latest Nike Lebron 9 South Beach shoe caused a frenzy on our front door, well close enough, at the Foot Locker store on Swanston St, Melbourne.
An article posted via the Foot Locker blog, the day before the release on May 9 at 1:40 pm, told of how people had already started lining up outside the Swanston St store.
“Tomorrow sees the release of the highly anticipated Lebron 9 ‘South Beach’. People have already started lining up, so be quick so you don’t miss out!”
The Lebron 9 PS Elite ‘South Beach’ (wolf grey/mint-candy) retails at $299.95, and by the nature of the line-up outside, we’re guessing these babies are sold out.
Above is the official image courtesy of Counterkicks.com and according to their article, this new Lebron is a sequel to Nike’s original South Beach sneaker, which started a colour trend craze over the past year.
Another major shoe fetish surrounds the release of the highly anticipated collaboration between Kanye West and Nike, appropriately titled the Air Yeezy 2.
This is the second release of the Air Yeezy designed in a Wolf Grey/Pure Platinum colourway. The below images reveal new product shots and exclusive concept sketches, showcasing the inspiration and attention to detail on the sneaker’s side panels, tongue, strap, upper, and sole.
Yes, yes indeed one could argue that.

The sneaker has already started a major comeback in high fashion circles too, especially with the introduction of the Isabel Marant wedge sneaker which has a waiting list so long, many fans have had to resort to the high street alternatives.
