Suppliers, agents, retailers and their staff and “anybody and everybody involved in the shoe business” will soon have a reason to kick up their heels as a new shoe industry bash takes to the stage later this year.
Created by Kerrie Munro, CEO of Melbourne footwear wholesaler Styling Services, and with a committee boasting entertainer Darryl Cotton, The Shoe Ball 2009 will launch this November as a celebratory industry networking event. Confirmed attendees include retailers Cinori, Marie-Claire, High on Heels and Shoe Fashions, as well as wholesalers Koco Agencies and Cube. Styling Services’ Loni McDonald said a turnout of around 500 guests at the inaugural event was expected.
“Other industries have a night of nights and we thought it was about time the footwear industry had one. Of course industry people manage to make contact with each other at trade fairs and other similar events but they’re usually too preoccupied with doing business to take the time and enjoy it. In tough times it’s more than important than ever to recognise the industry.”
Industry awards associated with the ball would include Hall of Fame inductions to recognise outstanding life time contributions and an Innovation Award to celebrate an individual impacting the future of the industry.
“We are asking attendees industry to nominate people from the industry, be it your boss or your long term employees. On the night this will be a great way to acknowledge those who have made our industry what it is today. We are also offering a ‘rising star’ award for the younger members of the industry.”
Taking place at the Palladium at Crown, Whiteman St, Southbank, Melbourne, on Friday November 20 from 7pm, the night will include a three-course dinner, first class entertainment and music and a celebrity sneaker auction.
Tickets are priced $230 per person. For more information, ticket purchases, or to nominate candidates for the Hall of Fame or Innovation Award, contact Loni McDonald, Styling Services, 03 9419 3833, or firstname.lastname@example.org
